Hundreds of guests representing the medical, entertainment, beauty, retail, publishing and pharmaceutical industries gathered at The Plaza on October 15th for the 2013 Skin Cancer Foundation Gala.
The Skin Cancer Foundation Gala is an annual event where Skin Sense Awards are given in recognition of exceptional achievement in skin health, including public education about sun protection and skin cancer prevention. This year’s Skin Sense Award Honorees are Hearst Magazines and The Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) Sunscreen Committee. Valerie Monroe, Beauty Director of O The Oprah Magazine, and PCPC Sunscreen Committee Chair Farah K. Ahmed accepted these awards, respectively.
The evening began with a cocktail reception sponsored by Procter & Gamble. This was followed by a seated dinner and formal program including entertainment and award presentations. Grammy Award-winner Michelle Williams was the night’s Master of Ceremonies and performed with the Salomè Chamber Orchestra, featuring soloist David Aaron Carpenter. The gala culminated in a very special performance by the legendary Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award®-winning Cyndi Lauper, performing her signature anthem “True Colors.”
This year’s Host Committee was compiled of many society and fashion notables including Dr. Lisa Airan, Pat Cleveland, Carmen dell’Orefice, Valesca Guerrand-Hermès, Amanda Hearst, Laure Hériard-Dubreuil and Aaron Young, Alex Lundqvist, Julie and Billy Macklowe, Allison Sarofim and Stuart Parr, Stella Schnabel, Stephanie Seymour, and Veronica Webb and Chris Del Gatto.
Other notable guests included Gretchen Mol and Tod Williams, William Hurt, Michael Kenneth Williams, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Dianne Wiest.
Following the gala, guests made their way to the Foundation’s Young Associates After Party hosted at the Refinery Hotel Rooftop. Celebrity DJ Alexandra Richards provided the entertainment.
