Sun Safety Expo 2011

Nearly 7,000 people visited the Sun Safety Expo, held at New York’s Grand Central Terminal on June 9, 2011, where The Skin Cancer Foundation and a collection of its Seal of Recommendation holders teamed up to raise skin cancer and sun protection awareness in time for the start of summer. This was the second year of our Sun Safety Expo, and we were thrilled to welcome back many of the exhibitors from last year.

Nearly 7,000 people visited the Sun Safety Expo, held at New York’s Grand Central Terminal on June 9, 2011 where The Skin Cancer Foundation and a collection of its Seal of Recommendation holders teamed up to raise skin cancer and sun protection awareness in time for the start of summer. This was the second year of our Sun Safety Expo, and we were thrilled to welcome back many of the exhibitors from last year.

Attendees filled special gift bags with lots of free product samples, giveaways and coupons from 20 exhibitors, as well as sun safety information from the Foundation. In addition, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, World Cup Champion and Captain of the U.S. Women's Soccer Team Christie Rampone was on hand for a meet-and-greet at The Skin Cancer Foundation’s booth.

Those in attendance also had the opportunity to have a professional skin care evaluation with representatives from Canfield Imaging Systems, who demonstrated their facial sun damage-detecting Reveal® Imager system, which detects facial sun damage. We were also excited to have sun-protective hats and apparel booths this year.

The Seal Holders who participated in this year’s Sun Safety Expo included Aveeno, Banana Boat, Canfield Imaging Systems, Cetaphil, Clarins, Coppertone, Eucerin, Hawaiian Tropic, Jergens, La Roche-Posay, MDSolarSciences, Mott 50, NIA24, Ole Henrikson, Physicians Formula, Rite Aid, Solutia Performance Films, StriVectin, Vision-Ease, and Whitworth Hats.

The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation is granted to sun protection products that have been reviewed by and meet the stringent criteria of a volunteer Photobiology Committee.
