Road to Healthy Skin Tour 2009 Press Release

Free Skin Cancer Screening Tour & Traveling Resource Center
Provides Early Detection Services

New York, NY (April 1, 2009) - The Skin Cancer Foundation's Road to Healthy Skin Tour presented by AVEENO and Rite Aid -- which provides free full body skin cancer screenings and the latest skin cancer information -- will hit the road again this April. The tour will resume its course across the country making 80 stops at a variety of locations. Although skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, it is also one of the most preventable and, when detected early, treatable forms of cancer. Yet, more than 10,000 people in the US die from skin cancer every year.

"This is one of the Foundation's most important programs," said Perry Robins, MD, President of The Skin Cancer Foundation. "Last year we were able to screen thousands of people and we hope to reach even more this year. People should not be dying from skin cancer."

Additional sponsorship support for the tour is provided by DUSA Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Columbia Sportswear, and Solar Gard Window Film. The official media partner is Fitness magazine.

At each stop, people visit the 38-foot customized RV to receive a quick, easy and potentially life-saving full body skin cancer screening by local board-certified dermatologists in one of two private rooms. Educational materials that explain how to perform monthly skin checks at home and the proper ways to protect the skin from the sun on a daily basis will be provided. In addition, sunscreen samples, coupons and other useful information will be distributed.

In 2008, the Road to Healthy Skin Tour traveled 17,650 miles making 81 stops. It attracted almost 7,000 visitors and screened more than 3,000. More than 3,200 suspicious markings were detected and 39 suspected cases of melanoma.
