Today the Road to Healthy Skin Tour made another first-time stop at the Rite Aid in Kingston, TN. Though this was a last-minute addition to the Tour, it turned out to be one of the best thus far! With the help of the Rite Aid employees and Elizabeth Anderson, MD, we had another successful day! Amazingly, Dr. Anderson was able to screen 48 patients in just three hours! She detected 41 suspected skin precancers and nine suspected nonmelanoma skin cancers.
Kingston is much smaller than most of the other cities we have visited in the past. The people there were so excited and gracious and often reminded us of how thankful they were. Everyone said, “We never have anything quite as cool as this come to town!”
Finally, this Rite Aid store was great! The employees, who weren't even scheduled to work at the screening, came out to volunteer. Everyone, including the store manager Caprie, went out of their way to make the event special: the staff provided additional tents for shade, had three coolers filled with water and soda and made some homemade cookies for the visitors. We hope to come back again!
