Key leadership change represents next phase of growth for the Foundation
New York, NY (March 18, 2016) – The Skin Cancer Foundation recently announced the appointment of Dan Latore to the role of Executive Director. Latore previously led the Foundation’s Corporate Partnerships department, and has been with the organization since 2006. Latore succeeds Mary Stine, who helmed the Foundation starting in 2004 and retired from her role as Executive Director at the end of last year.
“Dan has consistently shown his natural ability to lead since starting with the Foundation nearly 10 years ago,” said Perry Robins, MD, president and founder, The Skin Cancer Foundation. “He had many successes in his previous role, including more than doubling annual corporate donations and launching a national skin cancer screening tour that enabled us to provide free screenings to more than 20,000 people over eight years. We are poised to reach new levels of success and growth under Dan’s leadership.”
Latore’s short term goals include growing the Foundation’s membership base and increasing current member engagement; delivering the organization’s medically-reviewed skin cancer content to audiences in new ways (with an emphasis on digital avenues); and further developing relationships with corporations that share the Foundation’s goals.
Latore’s long range goals are focused on educating the public on the need for sun protection and motivating sun protective behaviors. “It’s a little known fact that almost everything the public knows about sun protection can be traced back to The Skin Cancer Foundation, and we’ve been too modest about that,” said Latore. “We’ve been providing this valuable information to the public for more than three decades and it’s time to shift our efforts to motivate the public to take action. I’m talking about a systemic change in behavior that will ultimately reduce skin cancer incidence rates. I am thrilled to be taking on this new challenge.”

Prior to joining The Skin Cancer Foundation, Latore spent years in the advertising industry. His career started at ad agencies DDB Needham and Ammirati Puris Lintas, where he planned outreach initiatives for brands like UPS, Goldman Sachs, J&J and CIGNA. He then moved into advertising sales roles at People Magazine and Sports Illustrated, where he built valuable personal relationships and collected experiences that proved to be helpful as he transitioned into the nonprofit sector.
Latore graduated with a degree in Communication from Rutgers University, where he also played on the football team. His success in football led to a short stay with the NFL’s Detroit Lions, an achievement which helped frame his approach to many challenges.
Dan currently resides at the shore area of New Jersey with his wife Noel and two sons, TJ and Jack.
