Also known as Mohs micrographic surgery, the procedure is considered the most effective for removing nonmelanoma skin cancers, with cure rates up to 99 percent. The procedure is done in stages, including lab work, while the patient waits. This allows the removal of all cancerous cells for the highest cure rate while sparing healthy tissue and leaving the smallest possible scar. If you can _see_, then there’s UV! **Update: FDA Tanning Bed Rule Withdrawn** The Skin Cancer Foundation is greatly disappointed that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has withdrawn the 2015 proposed rule “General and Plastic Surgery Devices: Restricted Sale, Distribution, and Use of Sunlamp Products.” This proposed rule recommended tanning bed restrictions for minors. It is our hope that the FDA reviews the scientific evidence and reconsiders this decision. In the meantime, The Skin Cancer Foundation will continue to educate the public about the dangers of UV tanning beds.
