Raising Funds and Awareness

When Bob Manning was diagnosed with melanoma in 1999, he knew that he wanted to do something to promote skin cancer awareness. Along with his wife, Lauren, he came up with the idea for a charity running event to support the mission of The Skin Cancer Foundation. In 2004, with the full support of the Avalon Yacht Club in New Jersey, Bob and Lauren organized the first Avalon Yacht Club “Run from the Sun” 5K event.

During the past eight years, the “Run from the Sun” has grown steadily. It now includes nearly 500 participants including residents of Cape May County and vacationers visiting from across the country. To date, the “Run from the Sun” has raised more than $135,000!

Thank you, Bob and Lauren, for your continued support and incredible fundraising efforts! Every race is a step closer to finding a cure for melanoma.
