Legacy Giving

family image

By including The Skin Cancer Foundation in your estate plans, you can make a lasting difference in the fight against skin cancer. Leaving a legacy gift can provide tax benefits for you and your loved ones while ensuring future generations have access to trusted skin cancer education, prevention programs, early detection initiatives and research that saves lives.

After completing your estate planning, we invite you to share a copy of the relevant section of your will or trust that outlines your gift to The Skin Cancer Foundation. This information helps us plan for the future and allows us to keep you informed about the impact of your generosity. Any information you share with The Skin Cancer Foundation is kept strictly confidential.

Bequests under your will

Planned gifts are usually derived from a donor's assets rather than income and can be outright or deferred. It is recommended that you consult with a tax or legal advisor to discuss the following options:

  • Through a specific bequest, you may provide that a specific asset (such as stocks, bonds, or real estate) or a specific amount of money will go to the Foundation.
  • A residuary bequest may simply state that The Foundation is to receive a specific percentage or the remainder of your estate after all specific bequests have been made.
  • A contingent bequest may be used to ensure that the Foundation receives money or property if one or more of your named beneficiaries do not survive you.
When you revise your will to include The Skin Cancer Foundation as one of your beneficiaries, kindly ask your attorney to use language similar to the following:

“I give, devise and bequeath [describe dollar amount, property to be given, or proportion of your residuary estate] to The Skin Cancer Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit corporation organized under the laws of the New York State, with current headquarters located at 205 Lexington Avenue, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10016, for its general charitable purposes (or, if making a restricted gift, name the specific Skin Cancer Foundation program or initiative).”

Life insurance & retirement plans

If you wish to name the Foundation as a beneficiary of your life insurance or retirement plan (IRA, 401(K) or other retirement plan) please inform us so that we may provide your legal or/and tax advisor with information, as appropriate. Additionally, please let us know if it is an existing life insurance policy or retirement plan or if you are planning to purchase a new policy. That determines the tax deduction you can take.

Life income gifts & trusts

A life income gift or trust can provide the security of a lifetime income for you or your loved ones, while assuring an eventual gift to the Foundation.

Gifts of stock & securities

Shares of stock and other securities can be given directly to The Skin Cancer Foundation. Please contact us so that we may provide you with recommended transfer information.
