November Newsletter
Vol. 11 | November 2025
November is National Healthy Skin Month, a time to pay attention to your skin and focus on skin health. Daily sun protection is an important part of a healthy skin routine, helping to prevent early signs of skin aging, sunburn and skin cancer.
“Even for those who’ve spent a lifetime outdoors, adopting sun-safe practices today can make a meaningful difference in your skin’s health,” explains Beth Goldstein, MD, a physician member of The Skin Cancer Foundation practicing in North Carolina, where Governor Josh Stein issued a proclamation recognizing November as Healthy Skin Month.
This month is also a time to extend heartfelt thanks to our amazing community of skin cancer warriors and healthy skin champions who share their stories to spread awareness. Here’s a recent share from a member of our Facebook community.
“As I have metastatic melanoma, I beg people to please be careful, wear sunscreen, no tanning beds, they are harmful, it may not get you now, but years down the line, yes, it will. I had a few bad sunburns in my teens. Since then, I haven’t been a sun worshipper. But in my 60s, it got me. It’s no joke. Please be responsible when in the sun.”
Every year, our programs, fueled by your support and involvement, reach more people and save more lives
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you for teaming up with the Skin Cancer Foundation in advocating for the passage of the SAFE Sunscreen Standards Act, giving Americans access to new sunscreen ingredients to prevent skin cancer and save lives.
Great news: The legislation was signed into law on November 13, 2025 – a BIG win in the fight against skin cancer. More than 3,500 people in our community signed the letter of support and shared it far and wide. THANK YOU!!

Dr. Sarnoff Says
As fall turns to winter, it can be tempting to slack off on sun protection. But protecting yourself from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays is imperative year-round — especially if you plan to spend time outdoors skiing, snowboarding or engaging in winter sports.

Ask the Expert: Setting the Record Straight on Four Sun Protection Myths
You asked, we answered! A senior vice president of The Skin Cancer Foundation provides evidence-based answers to common questions about UV protection.
It could be skin cancer, says our expert, Ali Hendi, MD. It’s the perfect time to talk about this, since the Movember movement encourages men to skip shaving in November to raise awareness about health issues that can affect them.
Smoking Associated with Lower Melanoma Survival
According to research, melanoma patients with a history of smoking are more likely to die from the disease than patients who do not smoke. The studies found that melanoma patients with a history of smoking cigarettes are less likely to survive the disease than those who have never smoked.
