The Skin Cancer Foundation Is Back on the Road with Mobile Skin Cancer Screenings

The Foundation’s Destination Healthy Skin RV will provide free skin exams and raise awareness for skin cancer in 40 U.S. cities in 2026

NEW YORK (April 15, 2026) — The Skin Cancer Foundation is bringing Destination Healthy Skin to 40 cities in 22 states this year. The Foundation kicks off its 2026 mobile education and screening program on April 15 in Columbus, Ohio. It will then head to New York City for Melanoma Monday on May 4 and make an appearance at the Foundation’s annual Champions for Change Gala on Wednesday, May 13. The Destination Healthy Skin RV will travel approximately 10,000 miles over the next six months.

“Skin cancer rates continue to soar in this country, despite the fact that this disease is highly preventable with a good sun protection strategy,” says Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, president of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “That’s why skin cancer public health education is so important. When you consider that 65 percent of the people who come to Destination Healthy Skin have never had a skin cancer screening before, it makes you realize the vital role this program plays in the communities that we have the privilege to serve. We are so grateful for the support that has allowed us to continue to run this program in 2026.”

Inside the Destination Healthy Skin RV, local volunteer dermatologists, qualified physician associates or nurse practitioners provide free full-body skin cancer screenings in private exam rooms. Participants receive information about skin cancer warning signs and proper sun protection as well as product samples. The Destination Healthy Skin RV is equipped with a wheelchair lift for greater accessibility and shade structures to protect people in line.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and incidence continues to rise. It’s estimated that the number of new melanoma cases diagnosed in this country in 2026 will increase by 10.6 percent.  When skin cancers are found and removed early, they are treatable and often curable. The estimated five-year survival rate for patients whose melanoma is detected early is about 99 percent in the U.S. That is why The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that everyone visit a dermatologist at least once a year for a professional skin exam, in addition to looking for anything new, changing or unusual on their own skin while practicing monthly head-to-toe self-exams.
