Have you had 5 or more sunburns?
July is UV Safety Awareness Month and we want to share the truth about sunburn. It hurts, it happens fast and it causes lasting damage to your skin. You may not know this, but your skin remembers your sunburn long after it’s gone. The facts:
- Getting sunburned, particularly at a younger age, is a strong skin cancer risk factor.
- Having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk of developing melanoma.
- 33,000+ people each year require emergency medical treatment related to sunburn, according to the National Cancer Institute.
- Sunburn accelerates skin aging.
Our message to you: Don’t get burned! Protect your skin with a complete strategy: Seek shade, apply and reapply sunscreen, wear sun-safe clothing, hats and UV-blocking sunglasses. Your future skin will thank you!
