The Skin Cancer Foundation and Amazon Team Up to Raise Skin Cancer Awareness

Agreement Connects Two Leaders in their Respective Fields to Bring Lifesaving Information to the Public

New York, NY (May 15, 2017) – The Skin Cancer Foundation, the leading organization for educating the public about skin cancer prevention, detection and treatment, today announced it’s teaming up with Amazon. The relationship is designed to demonstrate a shared commitment to raising awareness of the world’s most common cancer, now occurring at epidemic levels.

Throughout 2017, The Skin Cancer Foundation and Amazon will work together to extend the Foundation’s lifesaving skin cancer messaging to a wide audience through content sharing. Select articles from The Skin Cancer Foundation’s content library will be featured in Amazon’s Professional Skin Care Section (www.amazon.com/professionalskincare). Topics may include seasonal sun protection, the importance of early detection of skin cancer and tips on reversing sun damage.

“When you consider the prevalence of this disease and how many people will see our messages, we know that lives will be saved,” said Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, president of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “We’re grateful for Amazon’s support of our mission and we look forward to working together for many years to come.”

Amazon’s relationship with The Skin Cancer Foundation will help support vital education initiatives, including SkinCancer.org, the leading online resource for skin cancer information; Sun Smart U, the Foundation’s youth education program; and Heads Up!, an early detection education program for beauty professionals. Amazon is also a ‘Heroes for Health’ Sponsor of The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Annual Champions for Change Gala, taking place October 17, 2017 at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York.

One in five Americans will develop skin cancer during a lifetime. Because nearly 90 percent of nonmelanoma skin cancers are associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun, incidence can be reduced by adopting basic sun protection techniques. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends following a sun protection regimen that includes daily sunscreen use, covering up with clothing, hats and sunglasses and seeking shade during peak sun hours. Furthermore, skin cancer is highly treatable when detected early, which is why the Foundation recommends that adults practice regular self-examination and visit a dermatologist annually for a professional skin exam.
