After visiting 13 states this spring in our brand-new Destination Healthy Skin RV, 37 dermatologists have volunteered their time and performed 1,336 free skin exams—each one a potential life saved.
In 2024, The Skin Cancer Foundation’s top priority was keeping our mobile skin cancer screening and education program, Destination Healthy Skin (DHS), on the road for years to come. This meant replacing our 14-year-old RV, which had reached the end of its life, with a new, fully customized model that could serve the public for a decade or more.
Our Destination Healthy Skin mobile screening and education program provided a record number of free skin cancer screenings in 2024. Over the course of six months, 68 physician volunteers performed 2,439 screenings and identified 1,009 potential skin cancers and precancers, including 86 melanomas.
In 2023, The Skin Cancer Foundation reached more people than ever before with fresh, creative approaches to our programs and materials.
It’s been a smashing summer for the Destination Healthy Skin free skin cancer screening and education program. During July, we traveled up the west coast before heading back east in August where we ended the month by surpassing our 2023 goal of 1,500 free screenings. And we’re not done yet!
Our 2023 Destination Healthy Skin free screening and education journey around the country is going strong. The RV has been on the road since May, and as of July 26, Our volunteer dermatologists have performed 1,137 free skin cancer screenings, identifying 427 suspected skin cancers and precancers including 24 suspected melanomas.
So far, our incredible event staff and committed volunteer dermatologists have facilitated and performed over 281 skin cancer screenings. During 39 hours of screening time, our doctors have identified a total of 41 suspected cancers and precancers, including 11 suspected melanomas – and we’re just getting warmed up!
In July, 2022, our Destination Healthy Skin RV made its way across five states, where we provided 274 free skin cancer screenings.
In June, our dermatologists collectively donated 35 hours of their time to conduct more than 350 skin exams. They identified 127 potential skin precancers and skin cancers, including four suspected melanomas.
In May 2022, our volunteer dermatologists screened 263 participants across four states and Washington, DC, putting in over 39 hours of screening time. And we’re just getting started!
